Monday 25/5/26 Day7
7.30am Flat calm. Got rid of spare water and stowed jib. Waited for a big ship to depart port, then motored around to CG ramp pontoon by 9.30am (Half tide falling). Logged off CG trip sheet with VHF call.
The trailer tilt/winch up and ute haulup went ok. The de-rig time about 35minutes, slowly improving. The ramp was moderately busy but ok with some tinnies and jetskis making the most of the calm morning.
The road trip home takes about 15-20 minutes. This time I tried a new route. Turned left off Flinders st east (Tsv night club area, silent by day). Drove past our Rugby league football Stadium, then turned right onto Boundary st (the V8 super car straight for 1 week per year), left onto Charters Towers road and right onto Bayswater rd in Hermit Park. It seems to be a good route with less traffic. Late morning Mondays is a good time as well.
Townsvilles' population has grown to 206,000. (It was a quieter 100,000 when i first arrived in 1979.) Twice as numerous cars have also grown larger in size, it can make it a bit too overcrowded on roads during peak hours.
Anyway it was good to get home after a long trip, wash the salt off everything, dry out in the sun and have stable flat surfaces to walk on again.
The trip was to test the boats systems and train the skipper a bit more, before heading further afield. Better something packs it in near the home ramp, where its easier to remedy.
